Floor area & volume calculator

Turn your measurements into square metres or cubic metres.

Use consistent measurements. Add separate simple shapes for a complex layout; subtract overlaps. A geometric volume is not a permitted-development entitlement.

TRANSPARENT CALCULATIONS

Your measurements, simple geometry.

Rectangular area = length × width. Triangular area = length × width ÷ 2. Box volume = length × width × height. Triangular-prism roof volume = length × width × height ÷ 2.

A 5 m × 4 m rectangle is 20 m². A triangular-prism roof 5 m long, 4 m wide and 2 m high has a geometric volume of 20 m³.

These calculations do not establish net additional roof space, planning eligibility, usable headroom or structural capacity. Existing roof geometry and previous additions matter when assessing a loft proposal. Discuss your planning route.
